Shirley Learthart is a Registered Nurse with 10 years experience working in the Critical Care Unit at the Conquest Hospital in Hastings. She is qualified in Advanced Life Support (ALS) and Teaching and Assessing in Clinical Practice (ENB 998).
In August 2000 an article of Shirley's was published in the Nursing Standard entitled Health Effects of Internal Rotation Shiftwork. It was while writing this article that Shirley became very interested in the preventative aspects of healthcare. Further research led to many studies showing how annual health checks can very significantly reduce the risk of heart attacks and strokes, reduce the number of hospital bed days required and generally optimise long term health.
Market research showed annual health checks were available but only at prices the majority of people could not afford. Therefore, in July 2005, Shirley started Vital Signs with the aim of providing a comprehensive annual health check at an affordable price.
